Mr. Chris Swepu is currently the Acting Chief Executive Officer at the Pan South African Language Board and is also its Deputy CEO. He is also serving in the Youth Advisory Panel of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), and is also a former Chief Education Specialist for youth development at the National Department of Education. He has participated in the establishment and administration of the FET Colleges Bursary Scheme, and rendered support to the development of strategic youth development plans at the DOE and at FET Colleges.
In 2005 he represented the South African youth at the World Youth Forum facilitated by UNESCO in Paris, France and was nominated by Africa as President of the World Youth Forum. He was also a part of the Social Cluster Task Team on Youth Affairs. He has presented various papers on youth issues including the paper on Children and Youth presented to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He was nominated by the National Youth Commission and appointed by the Ministers of Labour and Education to serve two successive terms on the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) National Standard Bodies (NSB 01 on Nature Conservation and Agriculture and NSB 11 on Services).
He has been a Board Member of the Tertiary Education Fund of South Africa (TEFSA), whose major responsibility was to coordinate the distribution of and account for funds from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and other donors. He also served as the inaugural President of the National Action Committee (NAC) of the Culture of Learning, Teaching and Services campaign (COLTS) initiated by the Department of Education. He has also served as a member of the Broad Transformation Forum at the University of the Western Cape, and participated in various education conferences during the spell of the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) in preparation and development of the countries education policy.
